Össur hf. is an Icelandic company that develops, manufactures and sells non-invasive orthopaedics equipment, including bracing and support products, compression therapy, and prosthetics.
The company was founded in 1971, by prosthetist Össur Kristinsson, in partnership with several Icelandic disability organizations. In 1986, Össur started its international expansion, in the same year as Össur received its first patent.
Stock Exchange Listing
In 1999, Össur became a public company, when it received a formal listing on the Icelandic Stock Exchange (now known as NASDAQ OMX Stock Exchange). In 2010, Össur completed a dual listing, as its shares started trading on the NASDAQ OMX Copenhagen Stock Exchange. The company ultimately removed itself from the Icelandic Exchange.
Acquisitions
Össur made its first acquisitions outside of Iceland in 2000 when it acquired the companies Flex-Foot Inc., Pi Medical, Karlsson and Bergström and Century XXII.
In 2005, Össur acquiree the companies Advanced Prosthetic Components (USA), Royce Medical Holdings Inc. (USA), Innovative Medical Products (UK) and GMB Medical AB (Sweden). These were followed by the acquisitions of Gibaud Group (France) and Innovation Sports (USA) in 2006.
In 2016, Össurmacquired the companies Medi Prosthetics (Germany) and Touch Bionics (UK).
